Diana Nyad Makes it on Attempt 5

Hi, It's been along time since I've upload an image, but I decided to due to some urging from a friend. Today was an incredible day as we took a flight out of Haines, Alaska and saw sights that were absolutely amazing. Difficult to put into words or photograph and get that awe that my son Cody and I experienced today. This is one of a multitude of glaciers we saw, this one entering Alsek Lake.

Historically, the Labour Day long weekend is one of the most dangerous
around the province when it comes to driving.

West Kootenay Traffic Services Sergeant Derrick Donovan says there's more traffic on the road, with people heading out camping or returning from vacations and shopping for school supplies..and it's important to give yourself extra time, and to use rest stops to avoid driver fatigue.
In the meantime he says they're getting a lot of reports of people speeding through construction zones, which which could cost you big money if caught..it's also dangerous for flaggers and workers.
Donovan says expect to see more road checks this weekend, and extra members for enforcement and education to slow motorists down.

As seen below, and in the hundreds of pictures I have taken since David graduated from Curlew and we moved back to the city (2006), there is a civil competition in Cheney. Folks work with each other and their spouses on time off with the family gardens. At one time there was a competition with the monthly winner getting a sign out front and a writeup in the local paper. That contest died out after a couple decades but the gardens are none the less beautiful, even the small homes as seen below. It makes from wonderful trips on our wheelchairs. With the closing of Ben Franklin where we used to hang out, we now spend a few pennies on our own garden. But I really like this one and the owner has a daughter who does all the decorating for weddings at the Davenport. She brings ideas home. Summers are such fun in photography.

The era of the Martha S came to an end with her last run July 7.
The vessel, known as the Keller ferry, had served the route across Lake Roosevelt on State Highway 21 since 1948 – 65 years.
The Martha S – named after Martha Shain, wife of Clarence Shain, then state highway director – was built in Coulee Dam. She was 80 feet long with a maximum speed around 10 knots and could carry a maximum of 12 vehicles or one tractor-trailer. She carried about 60,000 cars a year on the mile-and-a-quarter crossing.

State pushes prescription painkiller methadone, saving millions but costing lives

To cut costs, Washington steers Medicaid patients to a narcotic that costs less than a dollar a dose. The state insists methadone is safe. But hundreds die from it each year — and more than anyone else, it's the poor who pay the price.
