DAY WITH BOB IN THE WHEELCHAIR STARTS SOON

There's a big push to nationalize education through the "Common Core" school standards.  Nothing requires Catholic schools to adopt this latest fad, but they are under pressure to do so–and many already have.

You and I know that Catholic schools are among the best in the country, because our core is our Catholic Faith!

The Common Core standards were crafted by little-known "experts" at the behest of the morally reprehensible Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which together with the Obama administration and Washington trade associations have purchased the support of many governors, state superintendents and business leaders.

Sadly, this week your Cardinal Newman Society turned up another Gates Foundation grant—more than $100,000 to the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA), which has been aggressively pushing Common Core in our Catholic schools.  We're urging Catholic leaders and educators to slow down and consider Common Core's many flaws, including threats to Catholic identity and academic quality.Last night, I had the chance to discuss this troubling development with Raymond Arroyo on his EWTN show, The World Over. You can watch it here.

As part of that effort, we released our survey of Catholic High School Honor Roll principals, who expressed great concern about the Common Core.  I discussed that survey last night on EWTN as well.  If you missed it, you can watch it online here, or you can catch one its re-broadcasts, which are Sunday at 7 p.m. and Monday at 10 p.m. EST.

Also this week, we co-sponsored a meeting of Catholic school superintendents, principals and other Catholic education leaders to discuss the Common Core and what to do about it.  This off-the-record strategy meeting was organized by our friends at the National Association of Private Catholic and Independent Schools (NAPCIS) and co-sponsored by several Catholic groups and dioceses.  While the discussion was confidential, I can assure you that your prayers and support for our work are paying off.

There is a growing commitment in the Church to renewing faithful Catholic education.  In this month of thanksgiving, I couldn't be more grateful.  Thank you!

Came across this oldie that I captured about four years ago. It is in the same area of the buck I posted yesterday - It's time to pay that area a visit to see what I can spot. It's a beautiful place, and there are various trails to go on. The best time of day for me is when the children are in school - that leaves the trails nearly empty - perfect for me!
One Chance by Bob Shannon
Hello Bob,
You are so correct we normally one receive one chance in our photography at subjects that pass near us. Alike in our beliefs in God, we have one life, and in that one life we each must become the better person in the eyes of all we meet. My 3rg manuscript, titled; "The Winds of Change," begins the downslide of mankind once the west was taken from the Chinook and all the Nations of the Native Americans. The Earth of yesterday is not the Earth of today, with the encroachment of man into the regions of the world once untouched by the many has brought The Winds of Change upon us all. Governments and their wishes for wealth and prosperity; "When I ask, will they ever learn that we have only one Earth?"
I have seen more Canada Geese here overhead from where I live than in most years, I will have to take a journey to the Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge and walk out to the rear areas where I was a nest surveyor and determine just how bad the situation is now regarding wildlife and man's encroachment into their nesting grounds.
Keep strong and keep shooting...

Not sure many people over here have heard about this. But the Fiber Optic line to Lopez Island in the San Juan Island chain was broken several days ago and has yet to be fixed. People can't make long distance calls, 911 calls or even use their debit cards. You might say that they put all their eggs in one basket and the basket was dropped.

Fortunately the local Amateur Radio Operators (HAMs) and some others that are
anchored off shore have helped fill the void and are helping to pass messages, even for the 911 calls. Think about getting your Amateur Radio (HAM) license before this happens here.
