When we gather together to celebrate the Solemn Novena to St. Jude, we are engaging in one of the oldest and most remarkable
traditions of faith. For nine days we offer up our needs, our gratitude, and our hope. We trust in St. Jude to intercede for us,
and in this trust we can take great comfort.

Seattle Seahawks star Richard Sherman is already putting his new salary to good use, buying NBA star and Seattle native Jamal Crawford’s home in Maple Valley for $2.31 million.
Public records show that Sherman, 26, on Friday purchased a 9,435-square-foot Mediterranean mansion from Crawford, the Rainier Beach High School basketball icon who went eighth-overall in the 2000 NBA draft and now plays for the Los Angeles Clippers. The three-story home, located in the suburbs south of Renton, has four bedrooms and 6 1/4 bathrooms.

A teen gunman armed with a rifle shot and killed a student Tuesday and injured a teacher before he likely killed himself at a high school in a quiet Columbia River town in Oregon, authorities said.
After the shooting stopped, police spotted the suspect slumped on a toilet in a bathroom at Reynolds High School but couldn't see what was happening with him.
Officers used a robot with a camera to investigate and discovered the suspect was dead and that he had likely killed himself, Troutdale police spokesman Sgt. Carey Kaer said.
The victim was identified a 14-year-old freshman Emilio Hoffman, who was "loved by all," police Chief Scott Anderson said at a Tuesday news conference. He said Emilio was found in the boys' locker room.

In a stunning upset, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) was defeated in Tuesday’s congressional primary.

Tea party insurgent David Brat delivered an unpredicted and devastating loss to the second-most-powerful Republican in the House, who has widely been touted as a future speaker.

If you frequently travel on Amtrak trains between Washington and Boston, your on-board productivity level (or mindless Web surfing) could be in for a major boost.
Currently Amtrak restricts large file downloads and heavy media streaming aboard its trains, but the rail service is now looking to upgrade its on-board Wi-Fi service in the Northeast Corridor by constructing a dedicated wireless trackside network. The revamped network would provide high-capacity broadband speed and close the coverage gaps along the NEC.
The goal is to increase available bandwidth per train from the 10Mbps available today to a minimum of 25 Mbps (and scalable to even faster speeds as technology advances) to meet the demands of growing customer data usage.

X Class Flares

"DOUBLE X-FLARE: Forecasters expected an X-flare today, and the sun complied. The source, however, was unexpected. A new sunspot (AR2087) suddenly emerging from behind the sun's southeastern limb erupted twice, producing an X2.2-flare at 11:42 UT and an X1.5-flare at 12:52...

"..Before today's double-eruption, forecasters had been keeping a wary eye on sunspot complex AR2080/AR2085. Almost directly-facing Earth, those two sunspots have 'delta-class' magnetic fields that harbor energy for X-flares."

The Palouse is some rich fertile soil that came from Mount Mazuma after it's explosion. Mount Mazuma is now called Crater Lake. Along the Palouse farmers plant rich red wheat, which they bring in every fall and spring to the mills in Cheney Washington. There's plenty of wheat and the farmers are making quite a bit of money. The ones who were able to survive have built some pretty fancy homes. The big problem are the ones who are the farmers who have sold out to large corporations thereby allowing building of huge apartment complexes. I have a series of photographs I've been taking for the last five years on the subject. This picture here shows a single medium income farm of red wheat along Salnave road leading out of Cheney Washington.

Please don't desert your pet. Today a pet was taken from an apartment in which someone had moved. There are lots of dogs at SCRAPS. Many must be put to sleep. Don't let it be your dog or cat.

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, the reunion of all Christians, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father this month. Amen.
