Kathy Great Day
by Asst Editor Kathy Meader MSAP
Today was a high scoring day as far as critters go! I went out early, and before I reached my intended destination (family of Osprey with fledglings in the nest), I spotted a young buck. He was quite wild, but at the same time, curious about me. He took a couple of hesitation steps my way - and that's when I noticed the doe. She was quite skittish of me, and I deliberately stayed where I was at. We stayed within sight of each other for about ten minutes until something unseen by me scared the doe, and off they went.
My next stop was the Osprey nest. I decided to wait Mama Osprey out (we are both quite stubborn), and eventually, she gave in and allowed the babes to peek out. One told me off (quite loudly) and the other two seemed shier, hiding behind the mamma.
The last lucky find of the day was some baby killdeer - also unable to fly at this point. Mama and dad were trying to get them out of the road - they didn't seem to want to listen though! I did enjoy the ride, and I returned before I melted into a puddle of goo (it's beyond hot, here!)
I hope you enjoy the photos - there are others, but between getting the photos, uploading, and sorting, I'm tuckered out - the others will wait another day - I have some scenic pictures I took, but I will upload those ones tomorrow. Meanwhile, please enjoy!
Much love,
Kathy

BOB: I have little compared to my Associates beautiful work but below is some flowers of the last few days. I see God in all nature. In Flowers. In Birds and deer but there are times I have lived when an animal has given its life to help a family through winters harsh cold and very wild..I did it for many winters....The Spirit lives in the Mountains

He drank a bit too much....time out Mr bee.
He was punchy but not passed.

I live near Republic, Wa. and I personally love seeing the deer wander
around town. People call them the Town Deer...It is no worse living in
Republic then living out of Repulic, if we dont want them in our space
then we need to fence them out just like any one in Ferry County. Maybe
another alternative is that we should consider why we live here, on
their turf and if we don't like it move elsewhere. After all this is in
the mountains and people keep intruding on the natural habitat for many
wildlife species. If we are going to live here then we need to respect
them and teach our children to respect them. Not chase them, throw
things or sick a dog on them! They are God's creation too-and everything
he made is good...I don't know why Republic hasn't taken advantage of
the fact the we have deer in or town to draw tourist and money. What
about deer island in the Florida Keys!!! and they make money from it.
Keep our town alive and authentic to go with the theme of Republic.
"Come visit the town of Republic"
"With the feel of the old west, a victorian mining town, dig for
fossils, Music Fests, trailrides, fishing, canoeing, swimming and camping, or whatever suits your fancy and the "TOWN DEER WILL GREET YOU."-Anon
