The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the first case of Ebola diagnosed on US soil in a press conference on Tuesday.
What We Know....The male patient is at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas and contracted Ebola in Liberia, though it is unclear exactly how.
He is currently in intensive care after he first developed symptoms. He was in Dallas to visit family.
A shocking 58 percent of the state of California is now in a state of
"exceptional drought," according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. (1)
"The
drought's incredible three-year duration has nearly depleted both the
state's topsoil moisture and subsoil moisture reserves, according to
Brad Rippey of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, who wrote the Drought
Monitor report," reports the Washington Post. (2)
All the usual
measures are being taken to try to soften the impact of the drought: The
Governor has declared a state of emergency, strict water conservation
efforts are already in force, neighborhood "water cops" hand out stiff
fines fΩor excessive water usage, and people are scrambling to cut water
consumption in every way possible.
These efforts, however, will not be enough.
Polar Vortex to Return Early in the Northeast
While the fall will kick off with days of sunshine and temperatures
above normal in some of the region's largest cities, including New York
City and Philadelphia, the polar vortex may make its return for short,
sporadic periods in September.
"The vortex could slip at times, maybe even briefly in September for
the Northeast," AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Forecaster Paul Pastelok
said. "There could be a significant shot of chilly air that comes across
the Great Lakes region and into the interior Northeast sometime in mid-
to late-September."
As conditions in northern Canada begin to set up similar to last
fall, getting colder and unsettled quickly, it is likely that this
pattern could become a source for colder air to make its way down at
times into the United States, inducing a drop in temperatures for the
interior Northeast during mid-fall.
"Temperatures will not be as extreme in November when compared to
last year, but October could be an extreme month," Pastelok said.
After short-lived days of the polar vortex in September, the weather
should turn a bit warmer in November as rain ramps up across areas from
New York City to Boston and Portland, Maine, as well as the rest of the
region.
"We will see some dry weather in the Northeast, barring any tropical
systems, in September and October but in November it will get wet,"
Pastelok said.
— Remember the polar vortex, the huge mass of Arctic air that can
plunge much of the U.S. into the deep freeze? You might have to get used
to it.
A new study says that as the world
gets warmer, parts of North America, Europe and Asia could see more
frequent and stronger visits of that cold air. Researchers say that's
because of shrinking ice in the seas off Russia.

Sorry if this is a repeat post, but sounds like the paper you have been talking about. Victorina

A growing number of communities in central and northern California
could end up without water in 60 days due to the Golden state’s
prolonged drought.
There are now a dozen of small communities in Central and
Northern California relying on a single source of water – which
has the water resources board concerned they will not have any at
all in two months’ time.
At a mobile home park north of Oroville, more than 30 families are severely cutting back. The water supply is so tight it is shut off entirely between 10 pm and 5 am, according to CBS Sacramento. The families are relying on one well – all the others have dried up – and have to drive five miles to buy drinking water for themselves and their animals.

In January, Gov. Jerry Brown (D-Calif.) declared a drought state
of emergency in preparation for water shortages, in particular
during the summer months. The drought has entered its third year,
and water restrictions have increased in the state.
Nearly all urban areas in California have made considerable water conservation efforts, including mandatory limitations on water consumption, rationing, re-allocations of water to most essential crops and distribution guidelines for everyday use.
