“The world needs to listen to the cry of the earth, which is asking for help. If you carry on killing people and you continue to destroy nature and you take out all the oil, the minerals and the wood, our planet will become ill and we’ll all die.”

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A new study found alarming levels of toxic chemicals in fish caught in the Columbia River.
One aspect of the study that was especially unique: It tested the kinds of fish people usually take home and eat themselves or serve to their families. The fish tested were resident fish, living in the river year-round.

October 13 marks the 96th anniversary of one of the best-known Marian apparitions--the final appearance of Our Lady of the Rosary at Fatima, Portugal. For six months, always on the 13th day of the month, the Blessed Virgin Mary had appeared to three shepherd children--Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco--asking them to perform penance and to pray, especially the rosary. In the midst of World War I, the Blessed Virgin declared that the rosary would bring about peace.

The sixth and final apparition occurred on October 13, 1917, with approximately 70,000 people from across Portugal and around Europe in attendance. The crowd witnessed what has become known as "The Miracle of the Sun," in which the sun appeared to stand still, then spin in the sky before plunging toward the earth and returning to its place in the heavens. Because of heavy rains earlier in the day, the ground and the crowds were soaked; but after the Miracle of the Sun, everything was dry once again.

Of all the trees in the neighborhood I think I enjoy this tree up above. It's very light colored it's called a Russian olive tree. The elderly couple who live there have a person who comes to take care of the tree as well as landscape. I have taken in the past and still have many photographs of the 50 or so birdhouses the man has put up in his tree. All of the birdhouses come or are designed and see if they came from all countries of the world. I am not sure if that was the intention of the man who lives there with his wife but perhaps it was. It brings several visitors each day and I don't mean birds. I mean people. I am not the only one with the camera. Although I have seen Russian olive trees before this one is well taken care of On a beautiful corner lot. Once ensconced in their home they light a fire and enjoy a cool winters night looking out over the snow and forgetting all the troubles of the world. The location of this tree is third Street that's on the north east side of Cheney Washington.

DALLAS -- A child being treated for Enterovirus 68 at Children's Medical Center of Dallas is now paralyzed in his right arm, hospital officials said on Thursday.
The boy is expected to undergo physical therapy and will be released from the hospital soon.
Enterovirus 68 is a respiratory illness which has affected children across the country this year.
According to the Associated Press, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told doctors to be alert for a "polio-like" virus. So far Colorado has seen 10 cases where children became paralyzed.

Please donate: We need a new wheelchair and a bed...those are most important. Our springs are broken on our sleeping bed. It cannot be repaired. We must replace it because Jane and I suffer tremendous pains at night but the bed keeps us awake taking pain pills. Secondly we need a small wheelchair for one of us to shop in. It has to be fold able so it will fit into our drivers car. Neither the federal nor state government will pay for these and we barely get enough money. We have been reduced to begging.
