Post Halloween Edition

My wife and I had ZERO trick or treaters. I think the traditional door to door has died out, at least for a few years. I'm sure there are more than one answers as to why. I worked the old door to door method back in the late 1950's in a neighborhood which knew everyone. I hauled in as much as a kid could eat and went back for more. Sometime along the way as years past, a person put something bad in some candy filled straws. It may have happened before but never made the news. This time it made the news not only locally in Cleveland (the actual event happened in Texas) and it made news all over the country. Thus started the slow decline of door to door....this was our worst year ever. I'm not sure it will return in the near future.

What started out as a simple Halloween costume idea at Zaks Designs in Airway Heights, Washington turned out to be quite the learning experience. Son Bill Shannon, lower left wrote, "Our Marketing group. Dressed up as It’s A Small World." Bill told us he was William Wallace. Very good show put on. As per Zaks, their Facebook site is

Where does "cultural theft" end?
When I first read Melissa Rose’s article alleging that some white people were engaging in “cultural theft” from American Indians by adopting Indian-sounding names, my first reaction was to think “imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.” But then I noticed that “Talksalot” is not really an Indian name since it is written and vocalized in English rather than an Indian language. And many other ethnic groups, such as Hebrews, Celts and Germans have also adopted colorful names. For example, the German name “Wolfgang” means “wolf went by.”

I usually do not get into the news front page and breaking....my notion is the slow down life..and prefer to do it far from other humans, but in case you missed it, a man with an automatic or semi-such shot three people including a TSA inspector of LAX commonly known as Los Angelas International Airport. I flew out of LAX in the 10960's via TWA when they crews still rolled the steps up to the plane and we got off on the tarmack. If it was raining, umbrellas were given to those who had none. Of course I was raised in such times as bar b ques in the back yards after church on Sundays. I cannot wrap my head around the crazy world we live in today. I am so sorry children live in a world filled with gangs, hate and international terror. I still pray on Sundays...and Monday through Saturday as well. If you have tried all else with no success, God is there to welcome you with open arms....Peace to you this weekend....do something with your family....

Today I have a Yellow-headed Blackbird trying to show off his attributes by fanning his wings and lowering his body a most like a bow. There was a snow shower so there is some spots but that's the mountains in the spring. (*Bob)Spring seems a long way off now and I'm hoping Rick has some super adventures he is planning but one never knows with Rick. He most certainly doesn't let a few feet of snow hurt his travels....
