LEGAL LOGGERS EXPELLED
In April, exactly two years after the launch of Survival’s global campaign to save the Awá tribe, and after 57,377 of you sent messages to the Minister of Justice, your efforts paid off – the Brazilian government sent in troops to remove the illegal loggers from Awá land. We made this video to thank you, our incredible supporters, for making it all possible.

Made a little midnight hike to align Comet Lovejoy (C/2014 Q2) with the Huckleberry Mountain fire lookout in Glacier National Park, Montana. The 66.7% illuminated Moon washed out the comets tail(s), but the greenish snowball was still quite lovely - as were the occasional aurora in the opposite direction. Photographed at 01:47 am in a brisk -11F/-24C, but clear and calm. Nikon D750, 200mm f2.8 lens. A blend of equal exposures, short shutter high ISO sky and long shutter low ISO foreground.

Hospitalizations in Spokane County from influenza tripled this month compared to November, according to the Spokane Regional Health District.

Fifteen of these hospitalized this year have been 80 or older.
So far there have been no confirmed deaths from the flu in Washington this year, the district said.

Staff report. Deaths from influenza and pneumonia have hit "epidemic" levels in the U.S. as flu activity became widespread in 36 states, according to the Centers for Disease Handle and Prevention.

The mayor of the Washington coast community of Ocean Shores has declared a state of emergency after recent big waves and high tides damaged giant protective sandbags that protect several houses and condos from beach erosion.
Mayor Crystal Dingler says she's concerned that land behind the damaged sandbags will be undermined in future storms and the bluff will start falling off.

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush, moving closer to a possible presidential run, has stepped down as a paid adviser to a for-profit education company that sells online courses to public university students in exchange for a share of their tuition payments.
The former governor had stepped down from all of his business and nonprofit board memberships, including the chairmanship of his education foundation, “effective today.” Sunday Last

Aides said he wants to devote his time to exploring a return to politics rather than pursuing his business commitments, but separating himself from those interests now could preempt some political problems as he prepares for the added scrutiny of a hotly contested campaign for the Republican nomination. Bush’s affiliation with Academic Partnerships — which has contracts with Florida, Texas and a half-dozen other states and which reports annual sales of $100 million — could complicate his effort to promote his record as an education reformer.
