A total of 22 laboratory confirmed influenza deaths have been reported to date this season in Washington, including one pediatric death. Most deaths have occurred in people with pre-existing health conditions.

Spokane K through 6th graders will be in school an extra half hour starting next school year. The move has been in the works for a year and will catch local elementary schools up with other school schedules in the state.

So how will it benefit your child? Depending on the elementary school, it can be one of many things. Every school got to choose what they wanted to devote more time to.

Come fall, when there's an extra 30 minutes in the school day, Madison Elementary students will get more time for the arts.
Bambi Howe is a kindergarten teacher at Madison. Her class is about to get a whole lot more musical.
“Right now they do have experience with art each week, but it's taught by Ms. Bambi, not necessarily an art specialist,” Howe said.

In a couple of weeks voters in our area will be receiving ballots for a Maintenance and Operation Levy. This is NOT a new tax and will not increase the taxes property owners already pay.
This is money that goes directly to maintaining our school and supporting the children who live in this community. When we pass an M&O Levy, the state kicks in nearly $150,000. If we don't pass the levy, we don't get that money from the state.
For those of you who don't have children in school please remember, this levy helps maintain the largest public building in our region. Many of us have relied on our school facilities for our meetings and gatherings. In order to have reliable sound systems, available kitchen facilities, and working restrooms, we need to help pay for it. Please vote YES.

Sharing: TONIGHT.....Dont forget to watch "MURDER COMES TO TOWN" on channel 192 (dish network) @ 7PM...There will be a show on there called "WHO KILLED THANKSGIVING?" Its a true story about a woman who was found murdered in her home in NORTHPORT, WA. Just 40 minutes north of COLVILLE. I think this is also available streaming from Amazon. Too close to home and should be watched if you can.
