Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday ordered creation of a statewide earthquake early warning system that could give millions of Californians a few precious seconds of warning before a powerful temblor strikes.
The bill signed into law Tuesday directs the Office of Emergency Services to develop the system and identify sources of funding for it by January 2016. The system is expected to cost about $80 million to build and run for five years. The money cannot come from state general funds and the law doesn't specifically address alternatives, such as federal money or private sector partnerships.

We are so close to reaching our $1000 goal for online donations! We're only $170 away from reaching that goal for "Guitars for Kids"! Come on now, if we all gave just $5, we could reach that goal, and maybe even exceed it! "Guitars for Kids" fundraiser will close with a bang with the Junkyard Duo at the Brewery this Friday evening with a live auction. It's very easy to donate! You have 3 options: Just follow the link provided to use your credit card, or make a personal deposit in the "Guitars for Kids" account with Coulee Dam Credit Union, or mail a check made out to Guitars for Kids P.O. Box 947 Republic, WA. The guitars we will be able to purchase for our school will be our legacy that will last for decades to come! You could be a part of that legacy!! Please share!
