Janice Smith
Sidney, BC is beautiful this morning
Janice lives in Alberta, Canada where beyond her day job she takes most glorious pictures of all sorts of mountains and even the tragedy of the recent floods. If she worked for a newsprint paper she would be the photo editor along with Rick Price. Together they make Alberta a wonderful pace....not hard since it is one of God's chosen places. Our news site is an exclusive outlet for both photographers although Rick's images frequently make the glossy publications. Janice image above is ENORMOUS so you might have to scroll a bit. Learning today are we?

Kathy is truly spending a while in New Zealand with the daughter of another of Kathys friends of Lodi California. I say she is on assignment loosely. She would be taking pictures even if she had never met me the day after she graduated with her Masters in English and Journalism, and a bit of photography. I'm not sure but I think she could teach photography at EWU. I asked Kathy if she would take some images specifically for our publication. We have known her for many years and a couple of years after meeting her we asked if she could move closer to us. She does indeed live in my complex. I can see her place looking out any of my windows.
When Kathy isn't in NZ, she is out on her electric bike taking pictures in places few have been. She walks across the scablands and Palouse. It is as if all wild creatures know her. She has been withing 10 feet of a bull moose. I think she said she was having a discussion with it. Wow! She is foot abled, while I and Jane are confined to electric wheelchairs. Our radius is small but its real good to have besties with folks like Katy, Rick, Blanche, Bobby, Ron and many many more. Together we bring a world of images. Oh! Did I mention James Parker our man who has been to both poles north and south and lives is Dubai? Or Rob Fry, the only one who could find me when I was in North Idaho Advanced Care Hospital. Sorry to leave out names...you know who you are....

Dear Bob,
Washington is one of the best states in the country to get out on the trail — and now you can help make it even better! Speak out for Washington’s trails — Attend one of the Washington State Senate’s transportation listening sessions and speak to senators in your state about the importance of biking and walking.
Your state senators are holding listening sessions across the state to hear about transportation issues affecting you. It’s the perfect opportunity to speak out and let lawmakers know that trails are a smart investment in a balanced transportation system. Several sessions will be held over the next few weeks (from September 23 through October 15). Find a session near you and let us know you’ll be attending.
Trails are a part of a balanced, cost-effective transportation system that connects neighborhoods, boosts local economies, creates healthier communities, reduces congestion and improves safety for people who drive, walk, bike, and take transit. Our leaders need to hear from people like you who actively use trails for transportation and recreation, so they know that trails are smart investments.
Our partners at the Bicycle Alliance of Washington will be attending many of these meetings across the state and will help prepare you to speak out for trails, biking and walking. Please attend a listening session on transportation with leaders from the state senate and speak out for trails! Together, we can make sure that trails and opportunities for safe biking and walking are a part of a balanced transportation system.
Sincerely,
Laura Cohen

Police
say a French mountain climber stumbled upon a case of dozens of cut
jewels, worth hundreds of thousands of dollars — believed to be debris
from one of two Air India crashes decades ago.
Police commander Sylvain Merly
said the Mont Blanc climber, who asked to stay anonymous, turned in the
box marked "Made in India" on Sept. 9. Authorities hope to find someone
connected with its owner, who is presumed to have been a passenger on
one of the two jets that crashed in 1950 or 1966.
