UPDATE ON LORA KOCAL
In the evening of Sept 14th Lora Kocal, age 33 was involved in an accident in which the vehicle rolled tossing both passengers out. The accident happened near Coeur D' Alene, Idaho.
Lora's boyfriend Dustin Mundell of Newman Lake Idaho died from his injuries. Lora was taken to a local hospital then flown to Spokane's Sacred Heart.
Lora Kocol broke or fractured many bones and underwent two lengthy surgeries in the past few days. Considering the serious nature of her injuries, those who have seen her says she looks much better than when she first arrived. They also mentioned she has other surgeries ahead of her. She is aware that her boyfriend has passed.
The local and Ferry County friends have gathered together in pray for Lora and I am certain her parents Jeff and Lorrie would like to know that you too sent prayers up for the family and the family of the deceased. This kind of serious accident can have long pasting affects and I'm certain all are taking that into account. It hasn't been long since Jeff and Lorrie lost a part of there cabin due to a fire in which they were lucky to escape with their lives.
No family has done more for tourism in Ferry County than the Kocols who put on a yearly Sock Hop whig attracts folks from all over the world and is many times hosted by members of the KHQ news team. KHQ is Spokanes local NBC affiliate. Both Jane and I send our prayers to the Kocols and the Mundells. We hope to hear directly from the Kocol Family soon.

There sure is a lot of food around for hunters and tourists. I really miss the old Blue Cougar however. All raise your hands if your into a Big Blue and a Beer? Right...well it closed at about the right time as I stopped drinking 4 years ago and they surely would go out of business:-0
We get our news from BLOGS, friends, contacts locally and sometimes when
things become quiet, we copy a paragraph from a nationwide story with
links to the station or paper for complete stories. What we gave always
focused on local since we first had net access through MCN or Mendocino
Community Network.
Our last residence, Ferry County
Washington, frequently complains of little to no coverage. That's when
with the help of Jeff Kocal, KHQ, the local NBC outlet began covering
the 50's Sock Hop. We thank the crew from KHQ for putting all of that
effort and time into our small wilderness area. A few months ago I
started emailing Leslie Lowe, the weather person at KHQ and asked if
every so often she would mention such remorse cities as Republic, Malo
and Curlew, which she did.....
When I first
retired as a news photographer I felt as though I had a lot of time on
my hands with little to do, so I started giving out images gratis to the
Omak Chronicle, through their lead photographer Al Camp and to a weekly
called Huckleberry Press, owned and edited by Victoria Caudell. Now I
am in a wheelchair due to a severe neurological syndrome called Guillain
Barre. I am lucky to be alive.
These days my
photography is limited to those times when my health aide or family
member can give me a ride. I take most pictures through an open car
window. We are great full to our Canadian friends Ron Rattray and Rick
Price who are super duper photographers, and occasionally to other
friends who we have met over the years through National Press a
Photographers. And in winters my time is rather empty. So thanks to all
who help or have helped to keep me alive!
