AMBER ALERT SYSTEM IN FULL OPERATION
-Federal Government Shutdown Does Not Affect AMBER Alerts-

(Olympia)—The Washington State Patrol is reminding both the public and other law enforcement agencies that the AMBER Alert system is in full operation despite the shutdown of the federal government.

“We’re hearing of incorrect reports on both mainstream and social media about the status of the AMBER Alert System,” said Carri Gordon, AMBER Alert Coordinator for the Washington State Patrol. “The system is in full operation, and ready to help recover an abducted child.”

Although there is some federal coordination of the overall AMBER Alert program, each state has its own distribution system for alerts. Washington’s alerts are distributed by a private contractor that is in no way affected by the federal government shutdown.

Newly available in Washington are two additional alerts:
·         Endangered Missing Person Advisories – allow law enforcement to seek the public’s assistance in locating missing persons when the disappearance does not fit the criteria for an AMBER Alert.
·         Blue Alerts – provide information to the public to help locate suspects involved in assaulting or killing a police officer.

Think 68,000 screaming fans are loud? Wait until the Seahawks cram more of the 12th Man into CenturyLink Field.
At least, that’s what the team is thinking of doing, according to a report by Fox Sports. NFL writer Mike Garafolo reported Thursday, citing an anonymous source, that the Seahawks are considering adding 2,000 to 3,000 more seats at their home stadium for the 2014 season.

A group of about 200 feminist women have been denied entrance to an all-male meeting of Mormon priesthood holders.

The Ordain Women group marched from a nearby park to a standby line at outside the meeting Saturday evening to highlight what they perceive as gender inequality. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spokeswoman Ruth Todd greeted them and told them they would not be allowed in. The group had previously been denied their request for tickets.

The all-male meeting is being broadcast live around the world for the first time ever. Kate Kelly, the group's founder, said that's a good first step but not enough. She said men and women are not equal in the church.

In a statement, church officials said millions of women do not share the views of this small group and find their efforts divisive.

Officials said two teenage girls died and a teenage boy was critically injured after the car they were traveling in hit a tree Saturday night.
All three were University High School students.
Authorities said the driver was going too fast around a corner near the intersection of Ponderosa and Bates. The car lost control and hit a tree.
The driver was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center in critical condition.

Stand-up comedians have long joked that some things, like the actual components of chicken nuggets, are better left mysterious.
Recently, Mississippi researchers found out why: two nuggets they examined consisted of 50 percent or less chicken muscle tissue, the breast or thigh meat that comes to mind when a customer thinks of "chicken."
The nuggets came from two national fast food chains in Jackson. The three researchers selected one nugget from each box, preserved, dissected and stained the nuggets, then looked at them under a microscope.
The first nugget was about half muscle, with the rest a mix of fat, blood vessels and nerves. Close inspection revealed cells that line the skin and internal organs of the bird, the authors write in the American Journal of Medicine.
The second nugget was only 40 percent muscle, and the remainder was fat, cartilage and pieces of bone.

If you see the first letter of each line starting from pressures and ending in sustained it says "please pay us". I wish they could do the weather as neat as they do cryptics, but at least they got their point across.

FROM THE FERRY COUNTY VIEW- SUBSCRIBE SOON
It's not every day a team of wrestlers comes home from a tournament 100% victorious. Five Republic High School wrestlers competed at the state 1B tournament February 18-20, and all five returned state champions. Ferry County can take great pride in the accomplishments of Scotty Bacon, Ryn Rollins, Gilbert Maycumber, Kyle Kirkendall and Levi Larson.
Wrestling was introduced in the 1970’s to Republic High School by passionate Coach Jim Bair, who recently passed away in Castle Rock, Washington. Bair was inducted into the Washington State Hall of Fame for Wrestling Coaching posthumously this year. Wrestling gives kids an opportunity to grow and win, not only as a team, but individually. Through the decades Republic sent many local wrestlers to the state tournament, including Fred and Leonard Matthews, Bill and Tom Kidwell, Doug Moore, and Dave Hamilton, with Hamilton bringing home a trophy.
Under the direction of coach (and former wrestler) Jim Gubler, local wrestling heroes of the 90's include (but are certainly not limited to) JoJo Hewitt, Ryan Hamilton, Ed Olson, Marky Hover, Josh Jager and Jackie Hamilton. In the late 90's and early 2000’s Josh, Chad and Nick Olson were among those winning places at state. Four of the current champions as well as former graduates Seth Schertenleib, Landis Mills, Jordan Hancock and JJ Gubler spent part of their high school careers sharpening their skills with coach Gubler.
Today's kids continue that tradition of excellence under coaches Seth Schertenleib, Shawn Corbin, and Jack Hamilton. Over the past nine years Republic has secured 28 individual finalists, 23 individual championships, two back-to-back team state championships and several other individual and team trophies.
Ryn Rollins joins an elite group of Washington wrestlers. He is the sixth wrestler in Washington history to win 4 consecutive titles. Scotty Bacon carries the title of Top 145# wrestler in Washington State – in all classifications. Scotty also holds the title for State Champion of the Tri State Tourney for the second time. This is a very prestigious tourney with much bigger schools competing. Republic has been the Top B team six of the last nine years.

There are many programs which can alter photographs. I only use them for images which need repair. This one I simply applied a techiques I used years ago. I cut large and sharp then make image small and sharpen again. I do this 4 times then on the last one I denoise the image. Its my own special filter for making an image come out a bit more like a painting....
