''Tranquilizers became the panacea for the mentally ill,'' he said. ''The state programs were buying them by the carload, sending the drugged patients back to the community and the psychiatrists never tried to stop this. Local mental health centers were going to be the greatest thing going, but no one wanted to think it through.''

Pope Francis is viewed “very favorably” by 36 percent of America’s Catholics and “favorably” by 53 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll taken Sept. 23-29.  Just 4 percent of those polled said they have an unfavorable opinion of Pope Francis, the first Jesuit pope and the first pope to come from South America.
“Maybe they were just waiting for a Jesuit: Overwhelmingly, across the demographic board, Catholics — men and women, regular or not-so-regular church-goers, young and old — have a favorable opinion of Pope Francis,” Carroll added.

 International inspectors began the enormous task Sunday of destroying Syria’s stockpile of chemical weapons and the machinery used to create it, a United Nations official said, racing to meet a tight deadline to eliminate President Bashar Assad’s chemical weapons program.

The disarmament experts arrived in Damascus on Tuesday to carry out their mission under a U.N. Security Council resolution to dismantle and ultimately eliminate Syria’s estimated 1,000-ton arsenal. Their first goal in the undertaking is to scrap the Assad regime’s capacity to manufacture chemical weapons by Nov. 1.

 
Keith Bell If congress were Walmart the co-opted Republican party would be the 5 year old brat lying in the candy aisle kicking and screaming and throwing a tantrum because he didn't get what he wants. The big difference is the brat would then blame his mother for not giving in. This brat would up the ante by threatening to burn down Walmart. Russell, one of my Keithism's has always been "please don't start calling me names like Republican or Democrat." I don't buy into any particular platform. At this point though the Republican Party is an unmitigated disaster. One of Obama's traits that has frequently gotten him into trouble with the left is his efforts to compromise. When he came into office he was looking through rose colored glasses. Republicans have cured him of that notion.
