Flight of the Quail by Bob Shannon
My wife and I were out for a ride with a friend yesterday. We wanted to make sure fall hadn't changed the leaves and take some landscape pictures. I was using the iPad out of the passenger side window, trying to adjust this and that but taking pictures all the while, when a dozen California Quail suddenly fly out of a bush in from of me. Last time this happened we had a small dinner and that was in 1992. This time the only shooting was pictures and the Spokane S Valley make a super backdrop.

Karekare Falls
Karekare Falls
The settlement was immortalised in song by Crowded House on their Together Alone album in 1993, much of which was recorded at Karekare; the well known Dub/Reggae group, Salmonella Dub, used the name as well on their album Feel the Seasons Change - Live with the NZSO. The location will also be familiar to viewers of the film The Piano, which included beach scenes shot at Karekare and Piha. Also flatland skimboarding is becoming quite popular there.

Picture above by Ron Rattray. The mountains just above the border in BC are an awful lot of what gives us a high or low Kettle River each spring. Speaking of spring, am I the only one who feels that summer sped by awful quickly this year? All bets are off as to what kind of winter to expect. Its been a blowy fall into week one now and a bit colder than we are used to....I have no clues as to how much or how little snow to expect. I don't ski and if I had at one time, I wouldn't now due to Guillain Barre.
