Teck Trail Operations has been assessed a penalty of 210-thousand dollars after a PH Level Permit Exceedance in March of 2011.

Approximately 100 to 300 litres of high PH solution was discharged into a drain at Warfield operation and ended up draining into the Columbia River.
The company entered a guilty plea to one charge under the fisheries act and one under the Environmental Management Act.
Teck Manager of Environment Richard Deane says a thorough investigation was done, and  a lot of work since then to make sure it doesn't happen again.
A third party study found no indication of impacts on fish or long term environmental effects from the incident.
Meanwhile the money from the penalty will go towards habitat conservation within the Kootenay River and Columbia River watersheds.

This image is of a Stellers Jay taken at Waterton Lakes National Park in late February. This is one of the species that are easily identifiable with that wonderful blue body plumage and black head. Their attitude is all jay being bold and noisy.

Pullman Police arrested two suspects yesterday after they committed a home invasion robbery and then attempted to use stolen credit cards at local stores. While the investigation is still ongoing, it appears these suspects may be part of a burglary ring which has committed residential burglaries in Pullman, and likely other areas.
