State Patrol Detectives Seek Witnesses to Deadly I-5 Crash
The Washington State Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) is seeking additional witnesses to the car/semi-truck fatality collision that occurred Sunday, June 22, 2014, on I-5 near Headquarters Road in Cowlitz County.
At approximately 4:04 a.m., Kerri Hartnett-McGill of Edmonds was traveling south on I-5 when she traveled off the roadway to the left, crossed into the northbound lanes of I-5 and collided with a northbound tractor trailer.
Hartnett-McGill was fatally injured; her 4-year-old daughter riding in a child seat in the rear of the Acura was severely injured. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured, and escaped the truck before it burned.
The State Patrol had two contacts with Harnett-McGill earlier that morning, and did not detect evidence of impairment or excessive fatigue. Detectives wish to contact anyone else who had contact with Hartnett-McGill in the 24 hours before her death. It is routine for detectives to reconstruct the previous 24 hours in the lives of drivers involved in fatal collisions. The purpose it to learn about any relevant activities, medical issues, possible drug or alcohol use, and the amount of sleep they’d received.
If you have any information about the crash itself or Ms. Hartnett-McGill’s activities in the 24 hours before the crash, please contact M.A.I.T Detective Sergeant Jerry Cooper at (360) 805-1192 or Detective Dan Comnick at (360) 805-1160.

4 Week Countdown Begins!
Stop At The Top!
Courage Classic will end at Stevens Pass
The Washington State Deparment of Transportation will not allow cyclists to descend the west side of Stevens Pass this year due to an extensive repaving project. Therefore, we’ve decided to take advantage of the amazing scenery, food and fun that can be found at the Summit of Stevens for our Official Finish Line! The Tacoma Narrows Rotary Club is working hard to make it memorable.
This year, think 'Stop at the Top!'
What to bring to Courage Classic
Just a reminder that there is a packing list for your convenience on our website.

The doe appears to be heavily pregnant - which could be why she didn't bolt, but instinct said don't follow her, so we did not. The last thing I want to do is hurt what I want to save. Hope you enjoy! A longer lens would have been nice, but the fact that we saw these wonderful critters at all is pretty amazing! (The only ones I can do without are ticks, and for some reason, this year they are horrible - have had to remove four in the last couple of weeks - guess I need to dress with OFF!)

Boy Scout Troop 61 is ramping up our scouting program and we need adult
volunteers as merit badge counselors! A merit badge counselor meets with
scouts on an occasional basis, for a limited time to assist them with
learning more about a specific interest area. The current scouts in
Troop 61 have identified the following areas of interest for which we
need counselors:
backpacking, cooking, electricity, electronics, energy, engineering, fish and wildlife management, fishing, genealogy, hiking, law, metal work, motor boating, nuclear science, personal fitness, personal management, pulp and paper, radio, reptile and amphibian study, skating, snow sports, space exploration, sports, swimming, theater, truck transportation, water sports, whitewater, wilderness survival, and wood work. To learn more about these (and the more than 100 different merit badges offered through the Boy Scouts of America, visit www.meritbadge.org). You'll see what the requirements are for the scout to earn the badge, and what your scope of knowledge/expertise may need to include. Please reply to this post to volunteer your time to support our Boy Scouts on their trail to Eagle!

The RCMP Underwater Recovery team and Nelson Search and Rescue are
trying to recover the body of a diver after an accident Monday.
Creston RCMP were called to Star Valley Cliff on Kootenay Lake, just north of Grey Creek Monday afternoon.
Police say two men had been diving at the popular spot, when one hit
the water akwardly..the 2nd man tried to pull his friend to safety, but
the unconscious swimmer slipped under the water and didn't resurface.
According to police, the 25 year old Riondel man is presumed drowned...so far his name hasn't been released.
Police say the man is a long time resident, who was familiar with the
area..he's also been described as an experienced cliff diver.
