The Nelson Housing Committee wants to see the process started at the beginning when it comes to the possibility of a safe outdoor space, or homelessness campground.
Councillor Donna McDonald says they need to identify the scope of the issue first.

People who do outreach estimate there are between 30 and 50 homeless people in Nelson.
McDonald says they're asking if the Nelson Committee on Homelessness has a capacity to play a role in laying out plans to address the issue.

Former Tonasket High School librarian Elizabeth A. Kinkade, left, awaits a court hearing Monday morning for allegedly violating a no-contact order issued in the case against her for having sex with a student.   ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP, PA — Police arrested and charged a man with a crime because he hung an American flag upside down on his own property.

The Allegheny Township Police Department intruded on Brubaker’s property and forcibly took down the flag. Mr. Brubaker was charged with ‘defiling’ an American flag.
Allegheny Township Assistant Police Chief L.J. Berg said justified the arrest because he and others were offended.  “People have made too many sacrifices to protect the flag and to leave this happen in my community,” said Berg.  “I’m not happy with that.”

TREE LIGHTING & CAROLING IN THE PARK
The Republic Chamber of Commerce's second annual tree-lighting and caroling will take place November 29 at 4:00 PM in Patterson Park. Join us for a fun community celebration!
Although we recently received a donation of a large box of lights, we still need more lights to fully decorate the tree. If you have usable outdoor mini lights to donate, we will gladly use them. If you would like to help purchase lights, the reels of lights like the city bought last year cost $36 per reel (about 45' long). We have a City Council member who pledged to donate the cost of one reel. Can we get a few more? For donations of lights or funds, please contact Lacy at 775-8242.
