Freezing temperatures brought snow to the Grand Canyon in Arizona this New Years, making for a beautiful sight yet a hassle to visitors  This as the storm forced residents and party-goers in some usually sun-soaked cities to bundle up for a frosty New Year’sThe system swept from California in to the Mojave Desert and Nevada, bringing snow to parts of northern Arizona and the Grand Canyon.
Our favorite Alberta photographer has been to the Grand Canyon.

Wow...yes that young fellow had it bad......although he was in the hospital for only two month as compared to my almost 6. The reason I had it worse than most was my age. And then I had a trach/stoma as well. That put me in the wheelchair pretty much for the rest of my life. Next month will be 5 years since I contracted and I have not stopped working out. I post videos every so often of my progress. Winters are terrible. I have been hospitalized 3 times since for GBS related incidents always in winter.

Here is a video of my progress. My endurance will only allow me say 700-1000 steps per day, but I keep on One Step at a Time...

I'll take the hit....thanks

#2 - Explore Gardner Cave located near Metaline Falls, Washington. This cave is the second largest limestone cavern in Washington and is filled with stalactites, stalagmites, rimstone pools and flowstone. Located at Crawford State Park in north-east WA, you can view this natural wonder from the lighted stairways and walkways within the cave. (Photo via Washington State Parks & Recreation Commission)

The flu is starting to take its deadly toll in Washington.
The state Health Department says there were two influenza deaths last week and five this week.
Spokesman Donn Moyer says the seven deaths so far are lab-confirmed. He says it's likely there were more deaths for which there were no lab tests.
KIRO 7 has confirmed more deaths not included yet in the state's total number.
A Pierce County health official reported three additional deaths, including one child.
A King County Public Health epidemiologist said they had two more deaths not included in the state total, and a Washington Department of Health spokesperson said he knows of one more flu death in Spokane.
Numbers are updated at the state level as information is processed from individual counties.
There were 79 flu deaths in Washington last flu season.

ANON:
"A pair of black vultures made a shirt visit to my backyard yesterday afternoon. They are not typically year-round residents in XXX but perhaps warm temps (50s) have them further west than normal. The larger one danced around the backyard, but caught the attention of both dogs (who immediately barked) until he took off.

In looking at Native American totems associated to the black vulture, Pueblo consider it a sign of purification, medicine that would restore harmony that had been broken ... it facilitates the return to self. Its a symbol of the degeneration of physical holds, allowing the distribution of ones physical energy so that gravity does not weigh and hold one down- be it the gravity of earth or the gravity of mundane situations and experiences.

Like the earlier hawk sightings, more evidence of wilderness birds moving into more populated areas."

Residents in the Bitterroot Valley felt the rumblings of an earthquake that shook the backcountry outside Challis, Idaho, Saturday morning. The magnitude 4.9 quake was recorded at 10:44 a.m., and was centered four miles east of the town of Challis, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The temblor's epicenter was a little more than 5 miles below ground. Emergency officials in Challis reported road slides on several roads, but no damage to buildings or injuries
