Jessica Chambers was a regular at the rural convenience store gas station where Ali Fadhel worked, and the two often chatted. On Saturday, she came by in a dark-colored sweater and pajama pants that looked like sweats. She put $14 worth of gas in her car, more than the $5 or so she usually purchased, he said.
"I asked her, 'Why are you putting so much gas?' She said, 'I'm going somewhere,'" Fadhel said.
An hour and a half later, she was found along a back road, her body on fire, severe burns covering her. She was able to briefly talk to firefighters before she was airlifted to a Memphis hospital, where she died of thermal injuries.
Chambers, 19, had told the cashier she was going to make a stop before going home, he told The Associated Press.
"If she knew she had a problem with somebody, she would have told me," Fadhel said.

The day after Thanksgiving generally means the hunt is on for the best Christmas tree. But California's severe drought has some tree farms warning customers that they may not see the quality they have in past years.

The Meyer family was out shopping for a Christmas tree on Friday in the Santa Cruz Mountains. They saw first hand how the drought has impacted the quality of the trees.

GEOMAGNETIC STORM: Earth is entering a fast-moving stream of solar wind, and this is causing minor geomagnetic storms around the poles. "We are seeing Northern Lights against a dark blue afternoon sky in the Lofoten Islands of Norway," reports Eric Fokke. Arctic sky watchers should be alert for auroras after local nightfall on Dec. 12-13.
GEMINID METEOR SHOWER: Geminid meteor activity is picking up as Earth moves deeper into the debris stream of rock comet 3200 Phaethon. During the past 48 hours, NASA's network of all-sky cameras have detected 40 Geminid fireballs over the USA. Last night, this one disintegrated inside a Moon halo over the Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona

THE NITROGEN FRINGE: On Dec. 9th, aurora tour guide Chad Blakley of Sweden's Abisko National Park was warming up inside a Sami hut, when he looked through the door and noticed the snow turning green. "I rushed outside," he says, "and discovered one of the most beautiful aurora displays I had ever seen dancing overhead." In addition to green, there was a rare and remarkable fringe of pink

This woman knew both of our names. I know her face but have forgotten from where I have seen her. It is quite possible that it is from Alderwood Skilled Nursing, perhaps not. If you know please let ME know. Thanks

"It's a heavy shopping time, but then you add in that so many people are buying online, and obviously anything you buy online has to be shipped," Deputy Johnston explained. "I think it's just time marching on and us living in a technology age where us buying stuff on our computer has become very convenient, and very easy to do. We just need to take the necessary steps to learn from the purchasing process...so it doesn't end up in the wrong hands. A lot of things change with time, and with technology."

To all of my Ferry County friends and residents, I have found my self focusing on the crap in the world that pisses me off and not focusing on the great things that happen. On December 7th I had the pleasure to be involved in a great Christmas time story that my Daughter put together and wanted to share with you all. I think that it is time to try to get back the joy that this time of year can bring. Merry Christmas everyone!

The Mendez family loves Christmas.
“Christmas is a big deal for us,” Crystal Mendez said. “It always has been.”
Their middle son, Nicholas, was even born on Christmas Day.
But after their youngest son Gabriel’s near-drowning accident at age 3, they wondered how the traditions might change.
This year, they may have started a new tradition — inviting families of children with special needs over to visit with Santa in their Damascus home.
